My name is Tala Lee-Turton and I’m from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. In 2012, at the age of 16, I became only the 9th Brit to train at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, also known as the Moscow State Academy of Choreography, in its 239 year history (established in 1773).
I graduated four years later, at the age of 20, in 2016. I am the third British female student to graduate from the Academy – click here to find out more.
I am now working as a professional ballet dancer for which my Bolshoi training has stood me in good stead! This blog was written during my time at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in order to share my amazing experiences!

Hi Tala, what is the most important quality that teachers in Russia look for in potential BBA Students?
Hi Nina – well, I can only really offer an opinion based on the training that I have received here at the Bolshoi but I will say that turn out is really the most important quality. Of course, all the great Russian dancers dance from the soul so this is important too 🙂
Thank you!!!
Congratulations in your graduation from Bolshoi and also landing a job!!! At what ballet company will you work at?
Hi there – thank you very much, that’s very kind of you! I’m just finalising my contract so will be in a position to confirm once that’s sorted 🙂
